How long does it last, and does the flavor change?
Each jar comes with a best before date. When kept refrigerated, your kimchi stays enjoyable for several weeks. Because it’s alive with natural cultures, the flavor will continue to evolve and become tangier over time. This is a normal part of fermentation and a sign of quality—not spoilage. If you’re unsure, check the smell and texture. An unusual odor or a soapy, overly soft texture can indicate that it’s no longer at its best.
How do I store Zuur Mama products, and is it still safe if it fizzes or bubbles?
All Zuur Mama ferments must be kept refrigerated. A bit of fizzing, bubbling, or liquid rising is completely normal—it's simply the natural fermentation continuing, caused by carbon dioxide from the live cultures. This is a sign of quality, not spoilage. For fermented vegetables, a thin white film may occasionally appear. This is usually Kahm yeast, a harmless yeast commonly found in fermented foods. You can skim it off and enjoy the rest as usual.
Are Zuur Mama ferments vegan?
Our kimchi is not vegan because it contains fish sauce. All our fermented vegetables, however, are fully suitable for vegans.
Are Zuur Mama ferments gluten-free?
Yes. We use a gluten‑free fish sauce and naturally gluten‑free ingredients. Our fermented vegetables are also fully gluten‑free.
What exactly does 'No additives. No nonsense.' mean?

What is the shipping policy for Zuur Mama Kimchi?
Zuur Mama Kimchi is shipped in leak- free glass jars with shrink-wrap seal and protective packaging. We currently ship within the Netherlands. Orders are shipped with DPD and usually arrive within 1–3 business days within the Netherlands.

Do you offer local pickup?
Yes! If you live in Amstelveen (Randwijck area), you can choose Local Pickup at checkout. Pickups happen on Fridays, and we’ll send you the exact time and address after your order. It’s free, easy, and perfect if you’re nearby.
